waiting for the light to change

By Duncan Mercredi

i wait
waiting
for the light
the light
to wash
over me
let me wake
wake
feel its warmth
warmth
like water
caressing
removing the dirt
dirt
of city
that gathers in the gutters
gutters
fading
fading
over time
the sky darkens
darkens
like my skin
skin
bathed in sunlight
i become
become
someone new
new
yet old
old
older than this city
city
my home
bathed in smoke
smoke drifts down
down
silences voices
voices
hidden behind walls
walls become faded
faded
from the sunlight
sunlight
washes over me
i become
become
what i once was
