The Manitoba Theatre for Young People (MTYP) presents The Very Hungry Caterpillar and other Eric Carle favourites from March 15 to 24, 2019. The play tells the stories of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Little Cloud, and The Mixed-Up Chameleon through the magic of black-light theatre and fanciful puppetry. Performances are sponsored by the Inn at the Forks. Tickets start at $20 and are available at 204.942.8898 orwww.mtyp.ca.

There will be a media call for The Very Hungry Caterpillar on Tuesday, March 12 at 10:30 AM at MTYP's Mainstage at the Forks.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is written and illustrated by award-winning children's book illustrator and author, Eric Carle. The play follows a very tiny and very hungry caterpillar who eats his way through a variety of foods as he transforms into a butterfly. He is joined by Little Cloud, up in the sky who transforms himself into various creatures. The Mixed-Up Chameleon joins the fun as he goes on an adventurous trip to the zoo and discoveries his self-worth.

Eric Carle's stories are brought from the page to the stage by Mermaid Theatre of Windsor, Nova Scotia and are adapted, designed and directed by Jim Morrow. Gordon Pinsent (English) and Jean-François Casabonne (French) voice the narration. The composer is Steven Naylor, the scenic painter is Sarah Haydon Roy, and the associate designers are Deborah Maclean and Struan Robertson.

"It never ceases to amaze me to see how embedded Eric Carle is in family cultures," says Pablo Felices-Luna, MTYP's Artistic Director. "Whether it's paper books or board books, these stories are read to children from a very early age and quickly become part of so many daytime and nighttime routines. The Mermaid Theatre production faithfully brings them to life in front of us and we all get them to experience them in real space and time."

The Very Hungry Caterpillar will be performed for school and public audiences on MTYP's mainstage from March 12 to 24, 2019. This show is appropriate for ages three and up.
