Platform Centre for Photographic + Digital Arts: 'Three Chores' by Chantel Mierau, April 12 - May 24

EXHIBITION | 12 April - 24 May 2019
OPENING RECEPTION | Friday 12 April, 7:00 PM

PLATFORM centre is pleased to present an exhibition from Winnipeg based artist Chantel Mierau. "Three Chores" runs from 12 April – 24 May, 2019. An opening reception is scheduled for Friday 12 April at 7 PM. The event is free and open to the public.

Using the visual vocabulary of housework and craft (especially craft involving yarn), "Three Chores" imagines three improbable or impractical work flows. Chantel Mierau turns naps into make-work projects, uses a crochet hook to create a plumbing problem, and lets other things that need doing go on way too long. Wool, silk, beeswax and hair are mishandled and over-handled in ways that magnify the failures of the artist's body, and which rule out the possibility of any practical outcome.

This Gallery 2 exhibition will consist of three video works that each create tension and suspense within domestic actions. Every two weeks a new video will be shown - please see below for more details. The artist wishes to acknowledge the financial support of the Manitoba Arts Council.

CHORE 1 | 12 April - 25 April
CHORE 2 | 26 April - 9 May
CHORE 3 | 10 May - 24 May
