Prince Hamlet has it all: youth, wealth and freedom. Then his father dies, his mother marries his uncle and he loses the crown. Returning home from college, he finds his country a foreign land and the ghost of his father trapped in limbo. Will the Prince conform to his new reality, or will he rage against the machine?

Hamlet is directed by Rodrigo Beilfuss, his first project with SIR as the company's new Artistic Director. This young emerging director has a passion for Shakespeare and is eager to put his own unique spin on one of the most famous plays in the theatre canon.

"Hamlet is Shakespeare's most popular play and the touchstone of English classical theatre,"says Director Rodrigo Beilfuss. "The chance to rediscover it and to reinvent it for the 21st century through a contemporary and wholly Manitoban lens both excites and terrifies me. We will bring this most canonical of all Ghost stories home, infuse all characters with an insatiable love and a desperate need to belong, and face the big questions of Life and Death; under the vast openness of the Prairie sky. It will be a religious experience."

In addition to Beilfuss, Hamlet's creative team includes Tracey Nepinak (Assistant Director), Daina Leitold (Designer), Jacquie Loewen (Fight Choreographer) and Tom Soares (Text Coach). Stage Manager is Michael Duggan.

The cast includes Heather Russell-Smith, Skye Brandon, Daniel Chen, Nan Fewchuk, Reena Jolly, Melissa Langdon, Aqqalu, Steven Ratzlaff, Melanie Whyte and Brent Buchanan.

Shakespeare in the Ruins is at the epicenter of Winnipeg's classic live-theater scene. Proudly promoting the work of William Shakespeare to entertain, engage and educate audiences since 1993. Through our unique promenade-style productions SIR strives to establish genuine connections between performers and audiences; fostering a life-long love of theatre.
