Presenting: Winnipeg Artist Tracey Kucheravy

The Dance: A Solo Exhibition of New Paintings by Tracey Kucheravy

September 27th to October 19th, 2019

Opening Reception: Friday September 27th - 6:00 to 9:00 PM

Woodlands Gallery presents local artist, Tracey Kucheravy, in her highly anticipated first solo exhibition. In a lively exchange between artist and canvas, Kucheravy's paintings materialize through her unique eye as she exemplifies the intricacies of nature, highlighting branches, breaking the surface of water, and unveiling vast skies. Each painting is a negotiation between paintbrush and paint; contrasting colours unite over runny washes, rhythmically guiding us around the painting in a dance.

Born in Kamsack, Saskatchewan, Kucheravy currently lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba working as an engineering technologist and self-taught artist. Deeply influenced by her surroundings, she finds art is becoming a way of life. When she's not painting she's "seeing, thinking, and feeling the environment" around her which translates into her practice. After apprenticing with renowned Canadian landscape artist Gordon Harrison, she continues to hone her skills through travelling and artist residencies. Since her debut with Woodlands Gallery via our Supplementary Artists Program (SAP) in 2016, Kucheravy has cultivated a strong following while demonstrating incredible ingenuity as her work continues to evolve. Her paintings are held in private collections across Canada, UK, and United States.

Kucheravy describes her work as 'realistic impressionism' and connects her painting process with her engineering background. She injects a sense of movement within her paintings as she builds up layers of slippery glazes under solid, cellular plains. Warm and cool colours are set together, illuminating billowing clouds above thick forest, giving way to stoic islands and shifting branches and grasses. Her paintings exude energy as if dancing themselves, all the while depicting serene moments of Canada's incredible landscapes.

This exhibition is a celebration of nature's boundless beauty, its unruly and shifting energy, and constant rejuvenation. From budding artist, to SAPling, to flourishing painter, Woodlands Gallery is thrilled to present Tracey Kucheravy's first solo exhibition, the culmination of her many great achievements, "The Dance".
