About the Show:

Although colour has been closely tied to emotion, what interests me primarily is to play with the tension of line and colour to express an abstract idea.

This show is my thoughts on happiness, le bonheur de vie, expressed as my artful hours. For inspiration I ruminate on experiences lived, reflections on a life already mostly unrolled. Although this show features my own journey replete with vicissitudes, rapture, and hopefully fully some insight, it is mostly the life of us all.

What is the meaning of abiding happiness? How is it different from pleasure? For happiness to exist within the self, Must there be a total absence of pain? Why is pleasure so momentary?

For pleasure to endure there is a need for more, always more. Unless there is more there is nothing. Pleasure is a peripatetic temporary state requiring constant stoking and therefore exhausting and unsustainable.

Happiness is a stasis emanating from an awareness that we are loved and that whatever our compassion and kindness toward others, it will spread a serenity that ripples well beyond our own humble lives.

Each of us is unique in our awareness of these things, and each of us travels our own journey to make sense of our world so that we can reach out for happiness. We are all vulnerable to the extent that compassion and kindness we have extended to others we also hope to receive.

About the Artist:

A self-directed artist since the 70s, Bonnie Taylor paints as an abstract expressionist, with formal training in the history of art at the Sorbonne and institute catholic in Paris. She maintains a home studio in Winnipeg and at her Interlake farm. As an artist she believes that understanding our links to art history informs our creative process and carries us beyond what is today into what could be. She fearlessly explores a saturated color palette to capture the energetic tension between line and color.

Bonnie keeps art very close to her heart, and enjoys the company of other artists, workshops, exhibiting, attending and delivering art history educationals. As well as the online QuiickDraw Group, she is a longtime member of the Charleswood Art Group, Local Colour Art Group, serves as a docent at the Winnipeg Art Gallery and as an art study group coordinator for the WAG Associates.

Inducted to MSA in 2009, Bonnie Taylor has served multiple terms as president of the Manitoba Society Of Artists. She continues to serve on the Manitoba Open juried show committee, MSA Art history conference coordinator, and is MSA curator of the Piano Nobile Gallery. Bonnie has exhibited regularly with these groups as well as the newly established hArte Trail Studio Group Tour.
