EXHIBITION TOUR | Friday 10 January, 7 PM
OPENING RECEPTION | Friday 10 January, 8 PM

PLATFORM centre is pleased to present a solo exhibition from Ashley Gillanders (TX). The show, Mirror with a Memory, runs from 10 January – 21 February, 2020. A artist's tour of the exhibition will take place Friday 10 January at 7 PM followed by an opening reception on the same date at 8 PM. Both events are free and open to the public. We will also be celebrating the launch of a brand-new catalogue also titled Mirror with a Memory.

Ashley Gillanders' exhibition is comprised of new photographic work that explores the perception of space and time. Using a variety of imagery including theatrical stage curtains, mirrors rendered in virtual/digital environments, and fabricated sets paired with photographic 'representations' — this work relies on exploring the physical distance between seemingly similar objects to render spatial complexities and uncanny experiences that blur the lines between spaces of origin. Mirror with a Memory explores these spaces between physical and virtual space, questioning what is real and what is perceived to be real.

Ashley Gillanders is a lens-based artist whose work questions the liminal space between real and perceived reality. She received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she was the New Artist Society Scholar in the photography department from 2016-2018. She has been included in solo and groups exhibitions both nationally and internationally, and has been the recipient of numerous grants and scholarships for her work, including grants from the Manitoba Arts Council and the Winnipeg Arts Council. Her work is represented in the permanent collections of the Joan Flasch Artist Book Collection and the Art Institute of Chicago.

PLATFORM is thrilled to announce the launch of a brand new exhibition catalogue in conjunction with Ashely Gillanders' upcoming exhibition. Titled Mirror with a Memory, this new book features new work from thge artist and an essay by Gareth Kaye (IL).
