About the workshop
Geared for 2SQTBIPOC writers and artists. Workshop is free, but pre-registration is required. Please email email@example.com or call 204-786-9253 to register.
Pulling from found texts, fabric and other materials, participants will be lead in a conversation exploring themes and experiences of dis/comfort, care, and reflections on access and need. Will include embroidery, quilting, and creative writing. We will have some supplies available, but feel free to bring your own as well.
About melannie monoceros
melannie monoceros is a poet and artist exploring polysensory production through text/ile, performance, and installation. A Black and chronically ill creator, they are currently based in Treaty 1 /Winnipeg, MB; home of the Métis Nation and the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, Dene, Cree, Dakota and Oji-Cree Nations. They have read and performed at This is Not a Sentence (Paoli, IN 2018), Republic of Inclusion (Ottawa, ON 2017), and at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre (Toronto, ON 2016). melannie is a VONA fellow (Berkeley, CA 2014) and has since been awarded grants from the Canada, Ontario, and Toronto Arts Councils in 2016, 2017, 2018. melannie has been a guest lecturer at Concordia University, Ontario College of Art and Design, Ryerson University, and Yukon College School of Visual Art. melannie's writing has appeared in magazines such as Make/Shift, Shameless, and The Peak as well as the When Language Runs Dry zine. At present they are continuing work on their series "ancestoradio" as well as participating in mentorship programs through MAWA (Mentoring Artists for Women's Art) and Also As Well Too Artist Book Program.

Accessibility: The greenhouse artlab is located in the University of Winnipeg Library on the fourth floor of Centennial Hall. Access is via elevator on the main floor of Centennial Hall. Registered participants will meet at the library entrance and be guided to the greenhouse artlab.
