City of St. Albert: Call for Submissions, Art in Public Spaces, Deadline March 2
Date Issued: January 26, 2017
Due Date: 2:00:00 p.m. MST, March 2, 2017
The City of St. Albert (the "City") is pleased to announce a competition for one three-dimensional artwork to be placed in the garden entrance of Grandin Pond (the "Legacy Artwork"). The Legacy Artwork will take into consideration the purpose of the donation, which is to celebrate Lyle and Marie McCann, their love for each other, St. Albert, nature and their family.
The primary goal of the commission is to create a sculptural artwork that will celebrate the lives of Lyle and Marie McCann. The Legacy Artwork will be created within the context, and recognition of their legacy.
A secondary goal for the project is that the Legacy Artwork be developed with consideration of the context of its location in Grandin Pond. The Legacy Artwork will be installed in the centre square garden of the northwest entrance to Grandin Pond. The City will provide landscaping for the centre square in collaboration with the artist's recommendations and in consideration of the City's budget and resources.
The City seeks submissions from experienced artists or artist teams with a demonstrated ability to produce outdoor public artworks.
This is Part One of a two-part selection process. The objective of this pre-qualification process will be to compile a list of interested artists/artist teams and evaluate them based on experience, qualifications and concept.
Part Two of the selection process will be the release of an Invitation to Tender (the "ITT") for the supply of the outdoor public art for Grandin Pond. The ITT will be presented to the artists or artist teams selected from the Part One pre-qualification process.
The total budget for the Legacy Artwork is $44,600.00 (plus GST, if applicable).
