This workshop will teach you the basics of making an animated GIF (Graphics Interchange Format). GIFs are an animated image format popular among both contemporary artists and the general public. The workshop will begin with a brief exploration of the history of the still life and its intersection with the GIF. Then, using ideas of simple stop-motion animation, instructor Jeremy Pavka will demonstrate how to use still life photographs to create animated representations. At the end of the workshop, participants will walk away with the know how of GIF creation.

- A laptop with a version of Photoshop that includes the animation/timeline bar (Photoshop CS3 or higher)
- Basic digital camera knowledge

How to prepare for the workshop
- You've already got basic Photoshop skills
- You know how to use a digital camera
- You're familiar with the still life genre (think paintings of lemons, flowers in a vase, or a cornucopia).

Jeremy Pavka is an interdisciplinary artist based in Calgary, Alberta and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Media Arts + Digital Technologies from the Alberta College of Art + Design (2011). Pavka's practice uses analogue and digital technologies combined with comedic tropes to create laborious renditions of the everyday.
