From Shoal Lake to Lake of the Woods, THE LAKE rejoices in the font of inspiration that nature delivers to featured artists Tracey Kucheravy and Melissa Jean. Instinctively, we sense that being near water makes us healthier and happier; it reduces stress and brings us peace. We long for the solace of where water meets land and sky, and these paintings reflect that same attractive and restorative tranquility.
A curated group exhibition, THE LAKE also presents selected works from west coast gallery artists Cameron Bird and Rick Bond who are equally inspired by the outdoors and our great Canadian landscape. With a passion for the natural world and travelling, these artists situate themselves before and within the wilderness, painting first en plein air and later returning to their studios to refine their exacting but expressive studies into larger works on canvas.
Born in Kamsack, Saskatchewan, Tracey Kucheravy, is a self-taught and emerging artist who later apprenticed with Gordon Harrison. She is deeply influenced by her surroundings: vast prairies, lush forests, and colorful valleys all serve as inspiration for her paintings. Kucheravy's artworks are held in corporate and private collections in Canada, UK and the United States.
Melissa Jean paints out of her studio in Kenora, Ontario. Growing up in mid and western Canada, Jean's childhood was filled with movement and adventure that continues with her irresistible and unstoppable urge to create today. She basks in revealing details in nature that others might take for granted. Jean's artworks are held in corporate and private collection across North America.
If we become like where we are grown, these paintings are seasoned splendor by the artists' restful contemplations of their beautiful origins. You can almost hear the waves lapping at the shore.
Please join us Friday, September 22nd from 6:00 to 9:00 pm for the opening reception of THE LAKE! Melissa Jean and Tracey Kucheravy will be in attendance and refreshments will be served.
