Objects/Belongings: The Story of our Stuff.

So, there's that first concert ticket stub you still keep in a shoebox for some reason, and the childhood stuffed animal that you might still secretly hug on when no one else is at home. There's also that rock your found that you really like but don't know why and haven't had the heart to thrown away yet, and a box of old photographs that you bought at a flea market filled with faces of people you don't know. Instead of keeping our stuff under the bed, let's look at it together to see what stories these objects can reveal about us.

In this workshop participants will be asked to bring in their own personal objects that are meaningful (or not so meaningful). Kate will encourage participants to think about their everyday objects in new and different ways. What stories can we share of ourselves through our objects? What stories do our objects tell of us? Participants will explore a variety of illustration techniques and writing/editing methods to produce drawings and short narratives about our relationships with each object, and will compile a collaborative publication of the days work. Along with thinking and making things about our stuff, we will also learn about small press publications, different illustration methods and writing techniques. No drawing or writing experience necessary!

Materials: Objects to draw and stories to tell!
