Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra: Bourbon Street Parade, October 21

Sunday, October 21, 2018, 2:00 and 7:30 pm - Winnipeg Art Gallery

There's no better way to get the feel of authentic New Orleans jazz than to move to the Crescent City and soak up the atmosphere first-hand! That's what trombonist and Winnipeg native Chris Butcher has done. Chris will be back in town to play with the WJO as part of our October 21st Bourbon Street Parade concert. Chris spent some time in Toronto first, playing with folks like Jane Bunnett and leading his own group, the Heavyweights Brass Band. Though he's now based in the Big Easy, Chris still manages to make it up to Toronto regularly to pursue his Canadian projects.

We have TWO great trombone players visiting us to celebrate the heritage of New Orleans jazz! In addition to Chris Butcher, our October 21st concert will also feature Al Kay. Al played lead trombone for over a decade in Rob McConnell's Boss Brass and has some serious credentials .... including his own line of trombones made by Yamaha!

The concert will feature an intriguing blend of New Orleans marching band music, standards and original compositions by both Mr. Butcher and Mr. Kay. If you love great jazz trombone, this is the concert for you! And if you simply love great jazz, then EVERY Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra event is the concert for you!
