Prairie Theatre Exchange: Happy Place by Pamela Mala Sinha, November 8- 25
November 08, 2018 - November 25, 2018
Preview - November 07, 2018
Seven women. Seven stories. One community
From a Winnipeg-born, award-winning playwright, this brave and touching play explores and celebrates the courage, compassion and humour of a group of women living together in an in-patient care facility for women dealing with trauma. Each has their own story, their own reasons for being there, but the community they build together has an effect beyond what any therapist can offer. Constantly moving between humour and wrenching emotion, Happy Placeis a sincere and contemporary look at mental illness and the never-straight path to healing.
"It brilliantly lays bare the heart and soul of mental illness in a way we can all relate to and even laugh along with." - Theatromania
"While there are no easy answers to these women's troubled lives, they have, in part through sharing with the others, found individual paths on which they can move forward. In this poignant production, we go on the journey with them and find something hopeful within ourselves, too." – NOW Magazine
Running time: 2 hours, including one intermission
Audience Advisory: this play contains sensitive content, including discussions about trauma, suicide & sexual assault.
