The Royal Winnipeg Ballet is seeking a Head Residence Advisor to join our team. Ideal candidates will have at least 3 years of direct experience working in a Residence or related environment, coupled with excellent interpersonal skills to successfully build positive relationships with students and parents. Effective communication, flexibility with shifting priorities, and timely decision making are keys for success in this role.

THE position

As the Head Residence Advisor, you are responsible for providing a safe, healthy and supportive environment for student borders ages 11-18. You will provide direction to Residence Advisors and Activity Workers and manage all aspects of Residence student life. In this role, you work with the Residence Manager to ensure the strategic and business plan objectives of the RWB School are met.

HIGHLIGHTED duties of the role

  • Supervise and train Residence Advisors and Activity Workers, manage schedules and provide regular feedback and annual performance evaluations
  • Provide leadership on situations related to student safety and partner with the Professional Division Principal and the Student Care Counselors on crisis response and management protocols
  • Partner with Student Care Counselors in the creation of Residence policies and procedures
  • Manage student intake and orientation at the beginning of each session
  • Ensure language support is in place for students whose first language is not English
  • Manage the Communications Log, review daily and follow up as required
  • Provide on-call support as required
  • Provide supervision and care to students while on shift and act as a role model
  • Determine appropriate consequences for students and ensure follow through
  • Manage the planning and implementation of Residence activities and student life programming
  • Manage student duty and tracking systems including sign-in/sign-out, room check protocols, and related check-lists and forms
  • Manage aspects of care for students, ensure completion of chores, homework, and other required undertakings
  • Drive and walk students to and from academic school, appointments, activities/events when required

what you bring

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in child and youth care, social work, psychology, education, nursing or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered
  • Valid class IV Driver's license, or requirement to obtain within 3 months of employment
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Clear Criminal Background and Child Abuse Registry Checks
  • Good understanding of the welfare and development of children
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong initiative, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
