The Winnipeg Arts Council Awards
The Winnipeg Arts Council Awards have been a mainstay of the summer calendar since 2007, until the Covid-19 pandemic forced their cancellation in 2020. However, the awards are back in 2021 and will be presented this summer to Winnipeg artists, arts administrators, volunteers and patrons.
Four awards will be presented this year:
- The RBC On The Rise Award recognizes the demonstrated promise of an emerging, professional Winnipeg artist in any discipline. The award will be presented to someone who is in the early stages of a promising or noteworthy career.
- The Making a Mark Award applauds an established professional Winnipeg artist in any discipline, who is receiving critical recognition for excellence in their art practice in Winnipeg and beyond.
- The Making a Difference Award celebrates the contribution of a Winnipeg artist or arts professional to the growth and development of the arts in any discipline in Winnipeg. This award winner will be an artist, arts administrator or arts educator who is well-established in their field.
- The Outstanding Volunteer Award honours an individual who has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to volunteerism within the Winnipeg arts community.
A special presentation will be made this year for the Arts Champion Award. An online awards presentation will take place this summer the winners of each arts award will receive $5,000, while the Outstanding Volunteer receives a work of art by a Winnipeg artist and a $1,000 donation to the arts organization of their choice.
