Agassiz Chamber Music Festival 2023

We warmly invite you to the 2023 Agassiz International Chamber Music Festival June 4th to 10th at Canadian Mennonite University, 500 Shaftesbury Boulevard in Winnipeg.

The Agassiz Chamber Music Festival 2023 is inspired by the summer, that beautiful, radiant Winnipeg season. We open with Summerland - a work for solo piano written by African-American composer William Grant Still in 1935 - and that summer theme resonates throughout the festival, with midsummer moons, azure skies, South American getaways, forest dreams, Brazilian sambas and jack pines, tangos and fandangos!

The festival features a number of highly talented women - violinists Cathy French from Boston and Carissa Klopoushak from Ottawa, Winnipeg’s Métis soprano Carmen Dewar and violist Asdis Valdimarsdottir from Amsterdam, to name just a few. We’re also happy to present works by Jesseye Montgomery, Amy Beach, Violet Archer. Rebecca Clarke, Lili Boulanger, Karen Sunabacka, Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté, Clara Schumann and Jocelyn Morlock. Three highlights not to be missed will be award-winning American pianist John Novacek improvising on-stage to Buster Keaton’s silent movie "The Scarecrow”, some Agassiz jazz with the Will Bonness jazz trio, and Canada’s best known guitarist, Daniel Bolshoy, in summer sambas and flamenco virtuosity.

Karl Stobbe, Minna Rose Chung, Yuri Hooker, Paul Williamson, and many more familiar and supremely talented faces will once again participate in the Festival this year.
