This lecture will break down artificial intelligence (AI) into bite-sized pieces that are easy to understand. It will explore the gateways and barriers that AI employs in image and sound generation, and generative text in performance and writing.

Starting with the fascinating backstory of AI and moving to the present, the talk will examine what AI can do, what it cannot do, and what it might achieve (or not) in the future. This conversation will be packed with examples and resources for everyone, whether you are curious, skeptical or somewhere in between. Be prepared to experience joy, rage, disappointment, amusement and more! Most importantly, we will ensure a kind and respectful environment as we embark on this exploration together.

Erika Jean Lincoln’s art practice revolves around embodied learning and non-verbal communication. She works in the disciplines of New Media Arts and Disability Arts, where she examines the complex coupling between technologies and neurodivergence. She has participated in exhibitions at The Hole, NYC; Science Gallery, Dublin; Boston Cyberarts Gallery, USA; Bauhaus-Archiv, Germany; and the Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq. She has collaborated with neuroscientists and software engineers, and co-facilitated seminars with disability arts activists and scholars.
