Ballet in the Park

Welcome back to the summer tradition you don’t want to miss! The art of dance is a universal language that unites us all through movement and music. Ballet in the Park is a unique opportunity to enjoy artistry in motion under the prairie skies with family, friends, and nature at Assiniboine Park… for free! It’s a slice of Winnipeg culture that rivals Nutcracker for nostalgia and fun.

The Company will dazzle with Agnes de Mille’s delightful ballet Rodeo, a theatrical tale of love triangles and empowerment that will leave audiences of all ages grinning ear to ear. This story is a true showstopper, whether you’re seeing it for the first time or the fiftieth.

Students from the Professional and Recreational Divisions of the RWB School will deliver thrilling and beautiful performances showcasing the versatility of dance that will inspire us all with their artistry and technical excellence and leave everyone wanting more! Enjoy the classical technique of our senior level Professional Division students in the infamous pas de trois from Paquita. Dancers from the Intensive Training Program will present a contemporary work by former RWB Soloist Yosuke Mino entitled Burgeon, and members of the Junior Jazz Dance Ensemble will perform Recreational Division Principal Nicole Kepp’s original piece Sparkling Diamonds.

Ballet in the Park is the one time of year the incredible talents within our walls from all divisions gather in one place to reignite the stage, illuminate your world, and help you reconnect with dance!

What to Expect

Participate in engaging children’s activities before the performance like face painting, pointe shoe decorating, and a free Creative Movement class. Enjoy a variety of tasty food truck offerings from The Churro Stop, GG Gelati, Minnie’s Pierogi Truck, Tamale Time, or The Walleye Wagon. This is an outdoor event, so dress appropriately and be mindful of sun protection. Ballet in the Park may run as scheduled rain or shine; if we need to cancel due to inclement weather we will announce this on all channels as soon as we make the call.

What to Bring

Lawn chairs, cushions, and/or blankets to sit on; snacks and water to keep you fueled and hydrated; and a desire to reconnect and enjoy live dance!
