EXHIBITION | September 22 - November 4, 2023

OPENING RECEPTION | September 22 @ 7:30 PM

Previous exhibitions at MHC Gallery have explored the cultural, political, and social landscapes that prompted many Mennonites to leave the Canadian prairies for southern locales in the early 20th century. Now, a new pair of exhibitions considers a different perspective.

Entangled, running September 22nd – November 4th at MHC Gallery asks us to explore what new relationships are built when communities intertwine, but also what might be displaced when migrants settle in a new location, particularly in this case, the Paraguayan Chaco.

The exhibition features Layered Histories: Perspectives from the Chaco by Miriam Rudolph. The Winnipeg-based printmaker considers her childhood in Paraguay, her ancestral roots, and broader ideas about colonization in this work.

At the same time, Artes Vivas will display a collection of drawings. The Indigenous collective of artists from the Cayin ô Clim and Yiclôcat missions in Paraguay explore ancestral knowledge, settle-colonial relations, and land-based relationships in this collection of folk-art inspired works.

It is our hope that these two exhibitions will spark radical dialogue about complex relationships, and ultimately considerations of reconciliation.

MHC Gallery is open M-F 8:30 - 16:30 and Saturday Noon - 17:00. We are closed holidays and Sundays.

Entry is by donation. Main floor accessible with accessible washroom, 2nd floor accessible only by stairs.
