Folklorama Llama Mascot (Multi-Year Contract)

Folklorama is seeking an individual to fulfil the role of official mascot for Folklorama, the Folklorama Llama. As the Folklorama Llama you will be responsible for bringing to life the character and spirit of our organization by portraying our beloved Folklorama Llama. Your role is vital in creating a memorable, fun and entertaining experience for festival goers, engaging with audiences of all ages, and enhancing overall engagement at events, promotional activities and the 14-days of the Folklorama Festival.

Mascot Duties and Responsibilities

• Assume the persona of the Llama character and convey emotions, energy, and enthusiasm through exaggerated movements, gestures, and body language.

• Encourage audience participation, including dancing, clapping, and posing for photos with attendees.

• Making appearances at requested Pavilions during the two-week festival in August.

• Making other appearances at events throughout the year. This includes but is not limited to sponsor and charity events, media appearances and private functions (6 -10 per year).

• Maintain the mascot costume between dry cleaning (to be provided by Folklorama), ensuring it remains in good condition and is clean and pristine for each appearance.

• Be punctual and prepared for all appearances.

Additional Requirements:

• To assist the Folklorama Llama in navigating through crowds and unfamiliar surroundings, a Folklorama Llama escort is required to accompany the mascot at all times. It is the responsibility of the Folklorama Llama to arrange for their own Llama escort.

• Reliable transportation to each venue is required with a vehicle able to accommodate the mascot uniform.

Mascot Requirements and Qualifications

• Height requirement is between 5’ 9” and 6’ 2” to accommodate the mascot costume.

• Flexibility in work hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate the organization's event schedule.

o Ability to commit to appearances during the two-week Festival in August

o Ability to make other appearances at events throughout the year (6 – 10 per year).

• Excellent physical stamina and endurance to perform in a mascot costume for extended periods, often in varying weather conditions.

• Strong non-verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey emotions and enthusiasm through physical gestures and expressions.

• A friendly and engaging personality, with the ability to interact positively with audiences and represent the organization professionally.

• Comfortable performing in a confined costume with limited visibility and mobility, adapting to different performance environments and situations.

• Prioritize safety, following safety protocols, and ensuring the well-being of both mascot and audiences.

• Provision of a clear Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Check.

Schedule and Remuneration

Negotiation of precise schedule will occur with the Director, Ethno-Cultural Arts prior to contract start date, with the following dates being mandatory:

• Saturday, July 27th

o Casinos of Winnipeg Folklorama Kick-Off at Assiniboine Park

o 5:00 – 8:00pm (3 hours)

• Thursday, August 1st

o Media Call – time TBA (2 hours during the day)

• Sunday, August 4th to Saturday, August 17th, 2024

o Folklorama Festival: 2-3 Pavilions per night

Terms of Remuneration:

• You will be scheduled for up to a maximum of 80 hours at a rate of $25.00 per hour. Payment will be issued upon receipt of an invoice generated by yourself.

• A priority parking pass will be provided to you for Pavilions that have this availability. You are responsible for your own transportation and mileage
