Job description: Summer Position (up to 13 weeks)
Summary of Duties:
Reporting to the Director/Curator, School of Art Gallery, the incumbent will work within the Gallery’s Permanent Collection and on temporary exhibitions, with the primary focus on Permanent Collection-related tasks and a secondary focus on exhibition activities.
Within the Collection, the incumbent will:
• Assist with a vault remediation project, by assisting with relocation of a large volume of artworks out of a vault, and then assisting with the return of those works to their designated locations.
• Assist the Registrar/Preparator with inventory tasks
• Photograph artworks and scan documents;
• Inventory and condition report artworks in the collection;
Within the Gallery, the incumbent will:
• Assist the Gallery Technician and artists the striking of exhibitions
Education and Experience:
The ideal candidate will be enrolled full-time as a student in the field of art history, studio arts, archival, curatorial, or museum studies, or will possess a commensurate combination of education, training and experience. You must be eligible to participate in the Young Canada Works program (see qualifications below). You should have demonstrable strengths in research and writing, and proficiency with Microsoft Office. Experience handling art and knowledge of database management, and an interest and familiarity with Canadian and Indigenous art would be beneficial. Ability to operate a DSLR camera and copy stand, as well as knowledge of Photoshop is beneficial. Experience working or volunteering in public gallery, museum, or library is desirable.

The ideal candidate will have:
• A demonstrated interest in Canadian and Indigenous modern and contemporary art and museums;
• A keen eye for detail;
• Creative problem-solving skills;
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
Young Canada Works criteria
The candidate must:
• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada. Non-Canadian students or graduates holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible.
• Be legally entitled to work in Canada;
• Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
• Have completed the school year at the start of employment;
• Meet the specific eligibility criteria of the program to which you apply;
• Be registered in the YCW online candidate inventory;
• Be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment (minimum 30 hours a week);
• Not have another full-time job while employed in a YCW job;
• Have registered as a full-time student in the semester preceding the YCW job (as defined by your educational institution);
• Intend to return to full-time studies in the semester immediately following the YCW Summer Job.
