ICE: Moments is an exhibition of photographs by climatologist Klaus Hochheim at Winnipeg’s MHC Gallery. This collection of superb Arctic and Antarctic photographs exemplifies a unique intersection of art and science and represents the intimate viewpoint of an ice scientist who loved the frozen places few of us have visited. Klaus Hochheim’s work, both scientific and aesthetic, was rooted in his profound care for beautiful and threatened polar places.
The loss of Dr. Hochheim, along with two others, in a fatal accident in 2013 continues to be deeply felt by his friends, students, and colleagues, and by his wife, three children, and other members of his family. We hope you will join us on June 21 to celebrate the amazing life and work of Klaus Hochheim through ICE: Moments.
Simultaneously, CMU Press will publish a large-format art book of ICE: Moments, which also serves as a spectacular exhibition catalogue. The volume additionally offers two detailed essays: one examining the art by MHC Gallery Director Sarah Hodges-Kolisnyk and one detailing the science of Dr. Hochheim’s work by Dr. David Babb. Klaus’ wife Martha also contributes a memoir and introduction to the book.
Please note: opening event takes place on ground level; the second floor of the exhibition is only accessible via stairs.
