This is a two-part workshop series for adult performing artists of all experience levels. You are encouraged to attend both workshops, as the Impulse & Play workshop prepares you for the Intro to Clown. Taught by an experienced clown creator and educator with training at the renowned Ecole Philippe Gaulier and from some of the top clowns in so-called Canada.

Impulse and Play lay the foundation for all acts of performance (I’m not just saying that to sell this workshop…I promise). Play is the joy and pleasure you see in a performer’s eyes, it is the vibration that makes them irresistible on stage. Impulse is the bodies innate wisdom and knowledge, it is the heartbeat of creation.

Red Nose Clown is…the clown with the red nose…it is the wise-fool, the prophet and the poop, the sacred and the profane. It is the trickster within calling to be unleashed to teach lessons, get in (and out of) trouble, and tell really really really good stories.

Both workshops will be held in a decolonizing model of education and creation that opens dialogue and action around access and equity. If you foresee any barriers or you have access needs to participate in this workshop, please reach out to me. [email protected]

About your facilitator:

Philip Jonah Logan-Geller is a pretty okay clown…okay…okkaaayy?

They have trained and worked with some people who said they knew what they were doing including Micheal Kennard (Mump and Smoot), Jan Henderson (Fool Moon Productions), Karen Hines (Poxy Plays), and Natty (Nathanial) Justiano (Naked Empire Bouffon). They recently trained at the prestigious (AKA over-priced) Ecole Philippe Gaulier. Philip has performed, directed, and taught clown (or clown adjacent) work across so-called Canada for the past ten years, including at Play the Fool Festival (Edmonton, AB), Centre for Indigenous Theatre (Toronto, ON), Buddies in Bad Times Theatre (Toronto, ON), York University (Toronto, ON), Fluid Festival (Calgary, AB), Stratford Festival (Stratford, ON).

Philip’s practice is ever evolving and includes a weaving of traditional European clown with Michif trickster narratives. All of this to say Philip has learnt (is learning) how to play with abundance. Philip is Jewish (Ashkenazi) and Red River Michif (Métis) with Logan, Dupuis, Vandal ancestors, and roots to the historic Métis community of Rooster Town. Philip has an MFA in Directing from York University and a BFA in Acting from the University of Alberta.
