Jazz Winnipeg announces international Jazz Day in Manitoba; RECEIVES PROCLAMATION FROM PROVINCE OF MANITOBA
(April 30, 2024 - Winnipeg, MB) Jazz Winnipeg is thrilled to announce that the Manitoba government has proclaimed April 30 as International Jazz Day across the province. This proclamation recognizes the vital role that our “vibrant community of talented and award-winning professional jazz artists have [played] to help shape our province’s dynamic cultural community and represent the province all over the world.”
International Jazz Day (April 30) is the world's largest celebration of jazz, declared in 2011 by UNESCO, "to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe."
The proclamation comes just as Jazz Winnipeg is gearing up to celebrate its 35th year and kick off the summer festival season with the annual TD Winnipeg International Jazz Festival, June 14-22, 2024, with concerts at the Burton Cummings Theatre, Knox United Church, Royal Albert Arms, Pyramid Cabaret, and Fort Garry Hotel. More festival performer announcements are still to come.
For those looking for an earlier jazz fix, Sunday night concerts at the Hotel Fort Garry continue until May 12, with Kevin Waters on May 5 and Erin Propp + Larry Roy on May 12.
Tickets for the 2024 TD Winnipeg International Jazz Festival, running June 14-22, are available now on Ticketmaster and Showpass.
