keekih: Call to MB/SK Indigenous Artists
The Flin Flon Aboriginal Friendship Centre is seeking an Indigenous artist residing in the Manitoba/Saskatchewan Region to submit their expression of interest in working with our project team to integrate artwork into our new 16 unit safe and affordable housing facility.
keekih is the Cree word for my house, my home and is the name of this housing project. The logo symbolizes a roof over one's head, a circle of community support, and the earth, trees, and sky that we are part of.
This 6' H x 20' L commissioned art piece will acknowledge residential school survivors and their families by depicting Indigenous values, traditional symbols, resilience, and strength. The final commissioned piece will stand as a commemoration honouring Indigenous peoples, their history, and resilience.
The selected work will be integrated within keekih's main floor hallway directly outside of the residential program room. It will act as a beacon of hope and reminder of resilience to those who reside within and visit this facility.
The awarded artist will receive $15,000. Please email Catherine Whitecloud at [email protected] for full Call to Artists document and details.
