Martha Street Studio is pleased to present Layered Histories: Perspectives on Colonization from the Chaco, a solo show by Miriam Rudolph (MB).

Taking the form of a large-scale artists’ book, Layered Histories: Perspectives on Colonization from the Chaco explores the many different experiences of colonization processes in the Paraguayan Chaco, from the perspectives of Enxet and Enlhet Indigenous peoples, Anglican missionaries, and Mennonite settlers. Comprised of twelve hand-printed, multilayered intaglio prints accompanied by thirteen text pages, Rudolph’s focus in this book remains specific to a certain region in South America and at the same time resonates with the colonial history of Canada. Lending itself to comparison and reflection, Layered Histories invites questioning of our collective and individual biases, perceptions, and our understanding of history, challenging us to decolonize our thinking.
