Daniel Martin is a photographer from St-Claude, Manitoba, now established in St. Boniface. He studied at St. Boniface University and completed a Bachelor of Arts. Now retired for the past few years after a career as a public servant for the federal government, he has pursued a second career as an employment program facilitator for not-for-profit organizations. He is currently involved within the community and acts as a member of the St-Vincent de Paul Society through the St. Boniface Cathedral as well as with other community programs.

“Since my youth, I’ve been passionate about photography. I started in the 70s. I combined my passion for photography with my career as a public servant. It hasn’t always been easy; I was happy to work for the government and to be a father, but something was missing. I had a strong interest in photography and I was looking to develop my skills. I got involved to learn as much as possible about the topic of photography. This was done while working in a darkroom to develop my projects over time. My learning evolved through my involvement with multiple studios in Winnipeg, and by taking photographs for weddings on the weekends. As my skills developed, I had the opportunity to open a photography studio on Main Street in Winnipeg. Here, I worked many years to develop my skills by taking family portraits. My studio, Aurora Photo Studio, was in operation until 2014. Since then, I have continued to practice photography in a small studio in my basement, where I have the liberty to be creative in my artistic expression.”
