POLI POP RUNS JAN. 26-FEB 4 ON THE MTYP MAINSTAGE
South Korean company mixes music, interactive animation, and theatre to create new worlds for Ages 3+
(January 17, 2024, Winnipeg, MB) - Manitoba Theatre for Young People's first show of the new year brings back Seoul's BRUSH Theatre with Poli POP. Winnipeggers may remember BRUSH Theatre from MTYP's 21/22 season when they delighted local audiences with Doodle POP. Poli POP, which will make its North American premiere at MTYP, uses the same interactive animation, music, and theatre magic as Doodle POP, to bring the story to life.
"All of BRUSH’s productions are love stories," says Lee Seungeun, who plays Pola in Poli POP. "While Doodle POP thrives on the whimsical chemistry of doodling, Poli POP delves into a young boy Poli’s journey to understand the love of a family." She continues, "We hope Poli POP leaves audiences with a sense of warmth and unity, fostering a lasting appreciation for the power of love and imagination."
There will be a media call at MTYP (2 Forks Market Road) on Wednesday, January 24 at 2:30pm.
Poli POP tells the story of Poli and Pola, siblings with active imaginations who stay up past their bedtime. They use their imagination to journey to far away islands, roaring seas, dance parties, and more. But the duo doesn’t know there’s something else lurking in the shadows… an alien monster. Will Poli and Pola defeat the monster and make it back to their room safely? Poli POP is best enjoyed by Ages 3-8.
Poli POP runs on the MTYP Mainstage from January 26 to February 4. Tickets start at $24 and are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased online at MTYP's ticket centre or by calling the Box Office at 204-942-8898. Box Office hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays during the show run from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
