Workshop: Rephotography
Sun Oct 6, 2024 (10 am to 4 pm) - Artspace
WNDX Festival of Moving Image visiting artist, master filmmaker Terra Long, will lead a workshop on rephotography, which invites a playful fabulation of the archival image and incorporate hand-processing techniques.
- Registration fee: $10 (includes materials)
- Max # of participants: 8
- Qualifications: No prior experience needed
Workshop Description: Rephotography is a technique that invites a playful fabulation of the archival image. In this workshop we will draw on collective imaginaries of the future to create a 16mm print that resembles an archival document from our past. Part surrealist game and part 16mm crash course, participants will use a Bolex camera and high contrast black and white 16mm film to re-photograph images off of a screen. We will reimagine the source material using framing, abstraction, and rhythm. We will then hand-process and project the resulting film.
Note: This workshop is focused on collaborative work and creating group projects. There will not be individual student work undertaken in this workshop.
