The Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra Presents...Kwassa Kwassa: Music & Dance of the Congo

Saturday, Nov 11 @ 7:30pm

Centre Culturel Franco-Manitobain (340 Provencher Boulevard, Winnipeg, MB R2H 0G7)

The Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra joins forces with the 8-piece Congolese band True Generation to present a night of joyous dance and relentless groove that will be guaranteed to have you on your feet! True Generation, led by percussionist and vocalist Mutunwa Nyelele, performs with the goal of reaching young people around the world through music and, in the process, promoting love and compassion for one another. Mutunwa came to Winnipeg from Congo (by way of Uganda) in 2009 and began working with the group shortly thereafter. Three years ago he was asked to lead the band, made up of mostly young musicians, and guide them on their instruments while performing music popular in the Congo. Bassist Henry Onwuchekwa, who leads the Dr. Henry Band, and saxophonist and vocalist Joyce German will join the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra with music they've written, illustrating the Congo influence on music in Nigeria and South Sudan respectively. Don't miss this unique opportunity to hear music of the Congo with the WJO and True Generation! Find out more and get your tickets at www.winnipegjazzorchestra.com or call 204-632-5299.
