“Who’s at the Party (2)?”
Alice Crawford
Whimsical sculptural figurines at a party explore communication and inclusion issues for those with low hearing.
Statement:
“Who’s at the Party? – Take Two” is an exploration of the representation of Alice Crawford’s understanding of the people around her, from the bits of information she gleans from a noisy party environment; this time with the help of an assistive listening device.
Making connections is difficult; background noise interferes with conversation. Words become broken sounds, like a single vowel. Parts of words are not heard and have no meaning. Hence, conversations can be misconstrued, leading to frustration and isolation.
