First Fridays in the Exchange: Art Talk: WE ROCK - Mentorship as Art, July 1

First Fridays Art Talk: WE ROCK: Mentorship as Art

featuring Brandi Olenick of We Rock Winnipeg and Ava Wray

The next First Fridays Art Talk, "WE ROCK: Mentorship as Art" is on Friday, July 1 from 6:30-7:30pm. Founder of We Rock Winnipeg, Brandi Olenick and Musician/Creator Ava Wray will join Moderator J. A. Süss to discuss how a rock camp for girls and gender non-conforming youth works and why it is still important.

We Rock Winnipeg started as a seed when Brandi Olenick asked, "What if this [Girls Rock Camp Alliance] had existed when I was a kid?" This wide-ranging discussion will introduce We Rock Winnipeg, the visual aspects of We Rock Camp Winnipeg, programming that promotes mental health, and safe spaces within the music industry. We Rock believes that when you see someone like you doing something you yourself want to do, then you can realize it is possible.

Ava Wray is a genre-bending multi-instrumentalist who graduated from Brandon University with a Bachelor degree in jazz performance (guitar). Bicycle Face and À La Mode are some of her musical projects, with EP's, videos, tours under her belt, and a full-length outer space-themed concept album to be released by Bicycle Face in fall 2022.

First Fridays in the Exchange's Art Talk/Art Walk programming began in 2012 and the Talks went online in July 2020, with the aim of being back in person in 2022. Until then, the Talks are offered online for free at:
