Let’s not stay awake through dark nights, is a new full-length work by Winnipeg-based choreographer Alex Elliott. It was developed over the course of two years through national and international residencies. The piece explores themes of darkness, folklore, and transformation, drawing inspiration from the Icelandic lullaby Sofðu unga ástin mín—a haunting song rooted in the true story of two 18th-century outlaws and their tragic choices.

The work began as a solo created during the SÍM Artist Residency in Reykjavík in 2023 and has since evolved into a quintet through development phases at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival, Kinetic Studio in Halifax, and a residency at Théâtre Cercle Molière. The performance incorporates original sound design, lighting, costume, and set, and reflects a rich and layered collaborative process.

For this premiere, Alexandra Elliott Dance welcomes Indigenous-Icelandic artist Victoria Perrie, who will share the stage with a new work responding to the themes of the show.
