A hands-on analog filmmaking experience for BIPOC, 2SLGBTQ+, women and gender-diverse individuals, disabled persons, or members of French-language communities.

What You’ll Learn

- How to operate Super 8 cameras

- In-camera editing techniques

- Hand-processing black & white film in the darkroom

- Contact printing, title shooting, and film tinting

- Analogue editing using splicers and light tables

Your film will be professionally scanned at 2.5K resolution by the WFG with a final screening at the Dave Barber Cinematheque!

Workshops Timeline

Camera Orientation:

Sunday, August 3, 2025 | 12pm – 3pm

Intro to Super 8 cameras, light meters, planning, and troubleshooting

Shooting Period:

Monday, August 4–Sunday, August 24, 2025

Shoot and edit your short film (edit in-camera)

Film Processing & Editing:

Saturday, September 6–Sunday, September 7, 2025

Hand-process your film, edit and splice, shoot titles

Film Tinting & Digitizing:

Saturday, September 13, 2025

Continue editing, add colour, contact print, and explore surface effects

Final Screening & Wrap Party:

Tuesday, October 14, 2025

Spots are limited to 15 participants from Equity-Deserving Communities. Participants are asked to submit a CV, and letter of intent via a form. No experience required. This program is designed to support underrepresented filmmakers from Equity-Deserving Communities, who are residents of Manitoba. Participant Fees

$25 per person for OSM or WFG members

$50 for non-members

About the Instructor – Kristiane Church

Kristiane Church is an artist working in filmmaking, photography, installation, and performance. Her practice centers image and world making, the camera and positioning of body and voice. She works as a cinematographer for various filmmakers, as well as the Photography Technician at the School of Art (U of M).
