Drawing at Assiniboine Forest with Karen Cornelius

June 26, 2-5pm

MHC Gallery

Meet at MHC Gallery, where Karen Cornelius will lead a tour of her latest exhibition, Wild Beauty at Risk. Come prepared for an excursion into the adjacent Assiniboine Forest! Having spent hours sketching and creating art in forests, Cornelius will share her experiences with drawing tips, demonstrations and prompts. You will have time to explore and create before rejoining the group to share what you have made.

Bring the wet, dry or digital media of your choice and a sketchbook, drawing board and/or tablet.

Karen Cornelius creates art about place and belonging. Her current exhibition, Wild Beauty at Risk is a multi-media body of work that explores the astonishing beauty and grave fragility of our rainforests. Through drawing and painting processes as well as a fabric installation, Karen focuses on the loveliness of the jungle as a way to draw viewers into the rainforest ecosystems that stabilize the earth’s climate and offer the greatest biodiversity on the planet. Her work is layered as a reminder of the complexity of climate issues, while also infused with a sense of urgency for the species that are disappearing at an alarming rate. Each painting preserves a fragment of the forest—a memory made visible.

Tickets $25.
