Gallery Assistant (August 10 Deadline)
Graffiti Art Programming Inc. is hiring for the position of Gallery Assistant. This is a 22-week position at 25 hours per week. This position is supported by Cultural Works Canada’s Student Work Placement program. The Gallery Assistant will work closely with the Gallery Coordinator to support exhibitions, events, educational programming, and outreach. The position would best fit a post-secondary student studying Fine Art, Art History or Curatorial Studies. The role will offer the chosen candidate the chance to develop skills in arts administration and community arts programming.

Rate of pay: $18.00 per hour
Hours: 25 hours per week, primarily daytime Monday through Friday. Some evenings and weekend shifts will be required to support events
Duration: September 2, 2025 – January 31, 2026
Primary Responsibilities:
- Daily office maintenance and administrative tasks including data entry and filing
- Attend weekly staff meetings, take minutes and distribute to management team
- Communicate directly with the public, including phone and general email inquiries, and greeting gallery
visitors
- Assist with installation and strike of exhibitions at Graffiti Art Programming’s onsite and outdoor exhibition
spaces
- Support with events and exhibition openings
- Assist with educational programming, including leading gallery tours and workshops
- Promotion and communication including website updates, social media, posters
- Outreach to school groups, community partners, and other networks
- Other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications:
- Meet the requirements for Student Work Placement positions: 30 years of age or younger at the start of
employment; a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been
conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment; have a valid
Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance
with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations; be a post-secondary student currently enrolled
either full-time or part-time.
- An interest in a career in the arts, with special consideration given to practicing artists or post-secondary
students in Fine Art, Art History, or Curatorial Studies.
- Experience in digital and social media content creation.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (photoshop, Premier).
- Demonstrated skills in community engagement and ability to work in an anti-oppressive framework
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, reliable and
demonstrated capacity to work as part of a team, the ability to take direction and to self-direct.
- Valid class 5 drivers licence and access to a car is an asset.
- Successful candidate will be required to provide a clear criminal record with vulnerable sector check and child
abuse registry check.
