Michael Cavanagh’s Enduring Legacy

On June 6th at 7pm, The LOC has joined forces with Flipside Opera and Art Song Collective, along with the blessing of Manitoba Opera, to bring homage to and celebrate the legacy of one of Winnipeg’s most successful opera stage directors, Michael Cavanagh.

Michael was the Artistic Director of the Royal Swedish Opera prior to his untimely passing in 2024. As a pioneer of independent opera in Manitoba, alongside Neil Weisensel, he carved a path for many individuals and organizations in Manitoba and across Canada.

This tribute, and fundraiser to create a bursary in his name for aspiring stage directors, will bring many renowned opera singers to the Desautels Concert Hall stage and feature one of his operas, Gisela in Her Bathtub.
