Self-Care in the Arts

Loading map...

Artist life is not easy - we juggle various contracts, part-time jobs and lulls in work, manage challenging relationships in creative processes, and bring vulnerable parts of ourselves to our work while also trying to live regular and fulfilling lives under late capitalism and global despair. Taking care of ourselves is so critical! We will discuss and practice strategies for tuning into ourselves and our needs, emotional regulation, setting boundaries, self-advocacy, managing conflict and stress, and navigating difficult decisions.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born and raised in Treaty 1 Territory, Alex is a mixed-race dance artist, teacher and creator who has worked and performed as a dancer locally, nationally and internationally. She also works as a Marriage and Family Therapist. Most importantly, she is a parent, partner, daughter, sister, and friend. Alex is interested in our interconnectedness – how we relate to one another, the stories and forces that weave us together, and the ways we seek to belong. In all intersections of her work and life, she values collaboration and intentionality, and strives to cultivate environments in which our inherent goodness as humans can be cherished.
