Show Business with Ann Hodges

Before becoming Artistic Director of Prairie Theatre Exchange, Ann was a freelance director working across Canada. This workshop is an opportunity to talk with a professional director about networking, how theatre seasons are planned, the casting process, and how to get a foot in the door as a brand-new emerging artist. The workshop will focus on the local theatre scene with some references to the national theatre scene.

Ann will also look at participants’ resumes (please bring them in!), offer some tips about auditions and how to begin to take those first steps to connect with the professional theatre community. There will be lots of time for questions - and there are no dumb questions!

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Ann directs theatre, musicals and opera across Canada. Her work has been seen on every professional stage in Winnipeg, and she recently made her international debut in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. She is a frequent guest instructor at universities, colleges, and emerging artist programs. Ann was appointed Artistic Director of Prairie Theatre Exchange in November 2024. Her history with PTE spans 3 decades including serving as Artistic Associate (2014-15), teacher, marketing assistant and student. She has directed 16 shows for the company. A graduate of the National Theatre School (Directing), and the University of Winnipeg, Ann proudly makes her home in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
