In this embroidery workshop, you’ll learn to thread-paint a Hoopoe bird on a 6-inch hoop, with all materials and instructions provided. This piece is a tribute to everyday sights and sounds like those of the African Hoopoe or Canadian Blue Jay that quietly ground us, offering a sense of belonging, comfort and home.

Shula Mulenga Brown is an African textile artist based in Winnipeg. She creates decorative and functional art through embroidery, sewing and rughooking.
