Winter Institute 2024 | Open Call for Applicants!

Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art is thrilled to announce this open call for our first Winter Institute session. An intensive distillation of our longstanding Summer Institute program, this session will be led by artist Judy Radul in conjunction with their solo exhibition 'Live Lecture Streaming Podium: I am Not a Cat'.

The Winter Institute is a free, international artist research program for professional artists and cultural workers in all disciplines and media. For this session, we have invited artists, writers, and cultural theorists that are critically leading conversations in their field to present as part of the 2024 Winter Institute faculty.

The 2024 Winter Institute will run February 19 to February 25, 2024. Each day of the session will be explored by a new guest faculty member through morning lectures presented through the Live Lecture Streaming Podium apparatus, which will be open to the public. These events will be followed by a break and then afternoon workshops and debrief conversations specifically for the Winter Institute cohort. In addition to Judy Radul, the faculty for the week includes writer Tom Kohut, industrial designer/artist Scott Billings, and more to be announced.

The week-long program will culminate in a 4-hour open critique, in which both Winter Institute participants and members of the community are free to drop in. Those who attend the critique are welcome to bring their own work or research for feedback or to simply participate in the discussion. Work presented can be in-progress.

Applications are due January 15, 2024.
