Join host Patty Rosher for a 1 hour guided tour exploring agriculture as Winnipeg's formative industry and how it continues to sustain our city through to today.
Canadian farmers produce almost 90 million tonnes of grain, oilseeds, and pulses that go to markets all over the world. Maybe you’ve seen the big grain elevators on the prairie landscape, or the combines in the field at harvest, or the long trains running parallel to the highways. What you don’t see is that most of that grain is bought and sold and analyzed and certified by organizations located in downtown Winnipeg.
This tour will follow the evolution of the industry from the Exchange District up Main Street to Lombard Street and then to Portage and Main. Continuing to Waterfront Drive, participants will discuss the industry’s persistent presence and newest investment. Equally of interest, walkers will also witness the evolution in architectural styles downtown as they go.
