I am a child

I should not be writing sad songs
When sunlight bathes the world in sunshine
I should be singing songs of love and peace
Instead I wait
While waiting for the bombs to fall

I should not be writing sad songs
While the bird shares her vision of spring
Her vision that drifts and echoes
Across a waking land
While waiting for the bombs to fall

I should not be writing sad songs
While a child plays on the street
Not watching the sky
Stops to listen as the bird sings
While waiting for the bombs to fall
I should not be writing sad songs
I am a child
Full of hopes and dreams
Knowing nightmares are just dreams
While waiting for the bombs to fall

I should not be writing sad songs
My words should be ones of joy
They would soothe a troubled child
That the sky only carries bird songs
Not waiting for the bombs to fall

I should not be writing sad songs
I should not be writing sad songs
I should not be writing sad songs
I should be dancing
I am a child
