    The Creative City Network of Canada (CCNC) celebrated the recipients of its national Cultural Impact Awards. Among the honorees was Carol A. Phillips, recently retired Executive Director of the Winnipeg Arts Council, who was celebrated by her peers from across country with the 2024 Cultural Leadership Award.

    The Winnipeg Arts Council is saddened by the passing of Doreen Brownstone. With a stage and screen acting career spanning six decades, Doreen was a legend in Winnipeg and across Canada.

    Chimwemwe Undi to be Winnipeg Poet Laureate for 2023 and 2024.

    The Winnipeg Arts Council has announced that Chimwemwe (Chim) Undi has been selected by a panel of the city’s literary experts to serve as the Winnipeg Poet Laureate for 2023 and 2024. The Poet Laureate creates work that reflects the life of the city, commemorates official functions, and develops their own body of writing and performance.

    Once the fall chores are done and the snow comes, it’s time to share stories. Storytelling has been a way of both passing the time and passing on knowledge during the cold, dark winter nights for thousands of years. As the next Winnipeg winter sets in, Poet Laureate Duncan Mercredi has assembled a group of artists who will gather at the West End Cultural Centre to continue this tradition.
