The Annual Winnipeg Arts Council Awards
About the Winnipeg Arts Council Awards
The 11th annual Winnipeg Arts Council Awards will be presented on Thursday June 8 at the Fort Garry Hotel as part of the Mayor’s Luncheon for the Arts. The Awards celebrate the artists, arts administrators, and patrons whose dedication makes Winnipeg a centre for cultural achievement and a true City of the Arts.
Winnipeg Arts Council Awards winners are chosen by a jury composed of members of Winnipeg’s diverse arts and business communities. The jury considers all eligible submissions received and then determines the final list of Nominees as well as the Award winner in each category.
The nominees will be announced on May 15, 2017.
Awards to Artists and Arts Administrators
Three awards will recognize excellence and creativity in the arts: the RBC On The Rise Award, the Making a Mark Award and the Investors Group Making a Difference Award. Each award recipient will receive a cash prize of $2,500.
The RBC On The Rise Award recognizes the demonstrated promise of an emerging, professional Winnipeg artist in any discipline. This award is intended to help with the artist’s professional development. The jury may consider individuals of any age who have recently embarked on an artistic career.
The Making a Mark Award applauds an established professional Winnipeg artist in any discipline, who is receiving critical recognition for excellence in their art practice in Winnipeg and beyond.
The Investors Group Making a Difference Award celebrates the contribution of a Winnipeg artist or arts administrator to the growth and development of the arts in any discipline in Winnipeg. This award will likely go to someone well-established in their field.
Awards to Patrons of the Arts
Two awards will be presented to recipients from outside the arts community but whose ongoing support to the community is vital to the success of the arts in Winnipeg.
The Arts Champion Award will honour an individual, a business or a non-arts organization that has demonstrated sustained support to the arts in Winnipeg. The award will be a unique work of art.
The Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Volunteer Impact Award will honour an individual who has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to volunteerism within the Winnipeg arts community. The award will be a unique work of art and a $1,000 cash donation on behalf of the winner to the Winnipeg arts organization of his or her choice.
